BIG Boss Kannada 10 contestant, Varthur Santhosh, has been arrested on set by forest department officials.
The reality TV star was cuffed on Sunday, October 22, 2023, after authorities received complaints from viewers that he was wearing a tiger claw pendant.
Varthur Santosh, also known as Hallikar Odeya, became a household name after rearing the Hallikar breed of cattle.
He is a famous personality from Bangalore and created his reputation through a successful farming career.
The contestant is a well recognised figure, serving as the chairman of Hallikar Cattle Breed and All India Hallikar Breed Conservation Committee.
The highly anticipated season is being hosted by much loved presenter Kichcha Sudeep.
This week, Kichcha Sudeep evicted TV news presenter Gaurish Akki from Bigg Boss after claims he did not add enough to the ongoing story lines within the house.
Varthur was arrested by forest department officials for wearing a tiger claw pendant.
The entire event was captured on camera as footage showed the contestant being forced away from the house.
As part of the investigation, the controversial claw was sent for analysis.
Officials are treating the matter seriously, with the First Information Report filed under non-bailable sections of the law, as reported by Times Of India.
Ravindra Kumar, Deputy Conservator of Forest, told India Today the arrest was sparked after public complaints from viewers.
"I inspected the golden pendant through proper procedure so we could find out if it was a genuine tiger claw," he said.
"We further instructed the Bigg Boss authorities to produce him before us. I inquired him about it, and he said that he got it in Hosur three years ago.
"After he agreed in front of the camera, we arrested him at around 8:30 pm."
The Deputy Conservator explained owning a tiger claw is in violation of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
He added that a maximum penalty of three to seven years can be handed out for the offence as tigers are a highly endangered species.
